Students were very excited to hear about our new rewards system as part of our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) process.
As it is a review year, processes are undergoing a revamp while trying to ensure everyone has a say on how we reward great behaviour. One of the first processes is to look at ‘universal rewards’, ones that 80% of students are able to earn. Student Council began the feedback with wanting to change the armbands and the end of year reward. They were also very keen on discussing the way you gained them. Their ideas and the PBL teams approval has led to our first changes.
Over the first 5 weeks of term (because we want to introduce with a bang and Term 1 is over) students can earn their first Bronze Paw. As long as they do not receive any major behaviour or less than 3 minor incidents they will gain their first paw. They also need to attend school with all absences explained. The next five weeks they will work towards their silver paw, Term 3 will be gold, with finally in Term 4 Red level.
At the end of the year depending what level behaviour you gained you will attend fun activities like a pool party, movies (different movies for different age groups) and maybe scootering on the basketball court, scavenger hunts etc. These will be confirmed later in the year.
Those students that do have a major behaviour will begin their 5 week cycle again. Classroom rewards are negotiated with the students and teachers and can be age appropriately given, you may notice that some classes use paw prints and some use dojo for instance.
